Rainy day in Glen Orchy

01/06/2005

Those youngsters at Arichastlich have graciously asked me to pen a few lines on Glen life for to-day. It’s been a day of exceptional weather with torrents of rain and strong Westerly gales. Capped and well muffled I battled across the high pass in the long glen at midday from my own beloved Glen Trollaih to look down into Glen Orchy. I was far from surprised to see the raging waters with levels only a few feet below the bridge at Catnish and the road almost impassible save by the Post Bus and a few foolish canoeists intent on submerging their Fiestas. My Lurchers were keen to return across the pass, even Buzzards seemed reluctant to lift from their cold and hungry perches as I passed by, the dogs caught the fragrance of the old dog fox but pretended not to in their flight for home, which I was keen to follow. No gossip to-day, only news of a young Glasgow artist and his paramour struggling with agressive drivers on that ghastly road south of Glen Falloch. An evening beside the fire, Ardbeg in Hand. Yours Aye, Archie, The Baron Trollaigh.
